Balls o' Fire depicts a soldier dragging an enemy prisoner off to a POW camp. Carl Phillips enlisted in 1941, and in July 1942 began pilot training. He flew 50 missions with the 15th Air Force out of Italy, and died in an Army hospital in Italy on December 12th, 1944, as a result of battle wounds.
